Integrating the Health Care Enterprise Seminars

HISAC and the Ministry of Health are pleased to announce the following seminars on the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) framework.  The IHE Framework has not been endorsed in New Zealand but there is considerable interest within the health sector for such a framework for New Zealand.  We want to raise the awareness and understanding of the IHE Framework and its relevance to e-Health implementation, how it might be applied in New Zealand and the value of doing so.   More information on IHE and the IHE framework can be found at www.IHE.net.

The seminars are being provided in conjunction with HL7 Australia and the NZ HL7 Health User Group (NZHUG).  They will be delivered by Chris Lindop, a distinguished IHE expert and Interoperability Program Manager at GE Healthcare from the United States.

There is no charge for attendance at these seminars.

We invite you to attend the following seminars in Wellington on 16th June or Auckland on 17th June:

"Introduction to IHE" Seminar

IHE is an initiative by healthcare professionals and industry to improve the way computer systems in healthcare share information.  IHE promotes the coordinates use of established standards such as DICOM and HL7 to address specific clinical need in support of optimal patient care.  IHE aims are for systems to be able to communicate with one another better, to be easier to implement, and to enable care providers to use information more effectively.

Internationally, interest and participation in IHE has been steadily growing.  IHE is well established in many parts of the globe.  IHE now has broad interest as vendors and purchasers experience the value of practically demonstrated system interoperability.  IHE has been in Australia since 2004 and now includes the annual "Interoperability Showcase" at the HIC Conferences which has become an increasingly important interoperability event in Australia.

This seminar is directed at a managerial, CIO, business type audience as well as people in technical roles who have no background knowledge to IHE.

The IHE XDS "Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing" Seminar

IHE's "Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing" ("XDS") allows distribution and access of clinical documents across different care settings in healthcare enterprises.  XDS is an industry-developed architecture which is extensible to support both point-to-point exchange as well shared documents which "follow" the patient through different care settings.  XDS uses a registry/repository approach for accessing clinical documents, rather than a centralised EHR model.  It easily supports distributed and organically grown healthcare systems.

XDS is rapidly gaining interest around the world with some of the US Regional Health Information Organisation ("RHIO"s) deploying XDS in their system architectures.  XDS is being implemented for radiology image sharing across Canada and there are several early implementations in Europe.  A substantial number of vendors are "XDS-ready" and have tested their products in US and European IHE "Connectathons".  XDS uses a number of communications and data standards.  It fully incorporates HL7 CDA.

This seminar is directed at a technical audience.

Numbers are strictly limited so please RSVP your acceptance by 11 June 2008 by:

Further information about the seminars including location will be distributed by 13th June 2008.

We apologise for the short notice for these seminars.  We only recently became aware that HL7 Australia have an international IHE subject matter expert running seminars in Australia and the opportunity to extend his stay in the South Pacific seemed to good to miss!
