For the past year, Health Informatics New Zealand (HINZ) has been endevouring to stimulate debate re the development of a national electronic health records strategy. Development of a viable information sharing strategy is becoming more and more important to the New Zealand health sector. On one hand the pressure on the system to develop safe, reliable and easy to use mechanisms for sharing patient information is mounting. On the other hand we are becoming more and more aware of the complexities and challenges of doing so. At our fourth and final seminar on this topic we are very fortunate to have confirmed the attendance of Professor Trisha Greenhalgh (via video conference). Professor Greenhalgh is one of the world’s foremost authorities on shared electronic health records. Professor Greenhalgh led a team of researchers looking at the British National Health Service’s Summary Care Records Project which reported its findings in May 2008. We have also confirmed the attendance of Karen Gibson, General Manager Clinical Information – NEHTA (The Australian National e-Health Transition Agency). Also speaking will be Dr Zoran Bolevich, Group Manager of Information Strategy and Architecture, New Zealand Ministry of Health. Zoran is leading the Ministry’s review of the Health Information Strategy and he is very influential in shaping the New Zealand EHR Agenda. We have also invited Brian Rousseau. Brian is CEO of two of New Zealand’s District Health Boards; he has a strong interest in the practical application of information technology.
