Sysmex's Eclair in a Multiple Hospital and Laboratory Environment

The following is an interview with Dr. Ross Boswell, Medical Director of Clinical Support Services, Middlemore Hospital, an acute hospital of 800 beds, regarding the application of Eclair in his hospital.

Sysmex's Eclair uses web technology to publish and distribute diagnostic patient results and records electronically. The Eclair repository stores and collates clinical information and manages health service ordering. Designed to be multi-site from its beginnings, Eclair promotes the sharing of services and provides the right information at the right place in real time.

“Eclair is used as a clinical repository to receive laboratory and radiology reports from several sources - from Middlemore's laboratory and radiology services, the community lab service provider Diagnostic Medlab, and the other DHB diagnostic services in the Auckland region undertaking publicly-funded testing. The advantage of using Eclair is that all reports come back to the same place," says Dr Boswell.

"I see Eclair as a major advantage in outpatient clinics when patients may have had tests done in hospital and also at a community laboratory. Eclair brings all results together electronically. They are then available to the clinician at the point of care”.
