The Dunedin City Council Economic Development Unit is one of the largest economic development agencies that sits within a local authority in the New Zealand.
The unit focusses primarily on helping those companies that sell products and services outside of the city, both nationally and internationally. We do this through;

And we do this by building trust and confidence through a proactive and innovative approach

OVERVIEW

The Economic Development Unit (EDU) team specialise in working alongside industries including ICT, Research, Engineering, Education, Tourism, Food and Beverage and Manufacturing. As well as facilitating industry clusters, referring businesses to experienced advisors, and supporting the UPSTART business incubator the EDU offers some financial support. This includes;
- Market Support Fund - up to 50% of the costs of businesses launching into new markets
- Research Support Fund - up to 50% of the costs of researchers putting together research bids (e.g. employing a bid writer)
- Foundation for Research Science and Technology - 33-50% grants to support research and development costs
- Industry Project Fund - up to 66% of collaborative projects involving 3+ businesses
- Rates Relief - 50-100% reduction in general rates over 1-4 yrs for developments that will create or retain jobs in the city
